Full Trekking Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrival in Moshi

Metrics: 1–2 hrs transfer | Kilimanjaro Airport → Moshi

Kilimanjaro Airport arrival transfer to Moshi hotel

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, take time to relax and recover from your journey while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. If weather conditions permit, you may catch your first glimpse of Africa’s highest mountain. Later in the evening, your mountain guide will conduct a detailed pre-climb briefing covering the trekking itinerary, safety procedures, altitude awareness, and daily expectations. A complete gear inspection will also be carried out to ensure you have all necessary equipment before beginning your Kilimanjaro adventure.

Dinner and overnight at The Maridadi Hotel
DAY 2 Marangu Gate – Mandara Hut

Metrics: 4–5 hrs | 8 km | 1,870 m → 2,720 m

Marangu Gate registration and rainforest climb start to Mandara Hut

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and completion of park formalities before beginning your climb. The trail passes through dense rainforest filled with giant trees, colorful birds, and playful black and white colobus monkeys. The gradual ascent offers a comfortable introduction to Kilimanjaro while allowing plenty of time to appreciate the rich biodiversity of the mountain. The fresh forest air and beautiful scenery make for an enjoyable first trekking day. Upon arrival at Mandara Hut, settle into your mountain accommodation, enjoy a hot meal prepared by the crew, and relax as you prepare for the higher elevations ahead.

Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut
DAY 3 Mandara Hut – Horombo Hut

Metrics: 5–7 hrs | 12 km | 2,720 m → 3,720 m

Moorland ridge trek to Horombo Hut with views of Kibo and Mawenzi

Today's trek leaves the rainforest behind and gradually enters the heath and moorland zone. As the vegetation changes, spectacular views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks begin to emerge. The trail passes through open landscapes dotted with giant lobelias, everlasting flowers, and unique alpine plants found only on East African mountains. The steady ascent allows your body to continue adapting to the altitude. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut, enjoy lunch and take some time to rest before a short acclimatization walk to a higher elevation. This important activity helps improve your adjustment to altitude and increases your chances of a successful summit.

Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut
DAY 4 Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Metrics: 3–4 hrs | 6 km | 3,720 m → 4,000 m → 3,720 m

Acclimatization hike on Horombo slopes toward Kibo Hut

Today is dedicated entirely to acclimatization, an essential part of increasing summit success rates. After breakfast, you will embark on a guided acclimatization hike toward the slopes leading to Kibo Hut before returning to Horombo. This gradual climb allows your body to adapt naturally to the thinner air while offering breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding alpine landscape. Along the route, your guide will monitor your condition and provide valuable information about altitude adaptation. The afternoon is reserved for rest, hydration, and relaxation. Spending an extra night at Horombo greatly improves your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak safely and comfortably.

Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut
DAY 5 Horombo Hut – Kibo Hut

Metrics: 5–6 hrs | 10 km | 3,720 m → 4,720 m

Crossing the alpine desert Saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi

After breakfast, continue your ascent across the vast alpine desert known as the Saddle, located between the towering peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The terrain becomes increasingly barren and dramatic, creating a striking lunar-like landscape unlike anything seen earlier on the trek. Although the trail is not technically difficult, the higher altitude requires a slow and steady pace. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s upper slopes and surrounding wilderness. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, enjoy an early dinner and attend a final summit briefing from your guide. Spend the remainder of the afternoon resting before your midnight summit attempt.

Dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut
DAY 6 Kibo Hut – Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut

Metrics: 12–14 hrs | 21 km | 4,720 m → 5,895 m → 3,720 m

Uhuru Peak 5,895m summit victory and descent to Horombo Hut

Shortly after midnight, begin the most challenging and rewarding stage of your Kilimanjaro adventure. Trek under a star-filled sky toward Gilman’s Point, passing Hans Meyer Cave as you steadily climb higher. Reaching the crater rim is a major achievement, but the journey continues to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. Witness an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds and celebrate your accomplishment with photographs at the summit sign. After a brief stay at the peak, descend carefully to Kibo Hut for rest and refreshments before continuing down to Horombo Hut. This demanding day becomes the highlight of your entire expedition.

Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut
DAY 7 Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Moshi

Metrics: 5–7 hrs | 20 km | 3,720 m → 1,970 m

Rainforest descent to Marangu Gate and transfer to Moshi hotel

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the moorland and rainforest zones toward Marangu Gate. As the altitude decreases, temperatures become warmer and the vegetation grows increasingly lush. Enjoy the final moments on the mountain while reflecting on the achievement of reaching Africa’s highest peak. Upon arrival at the gate, successful climbers receive their official summit certificates and celebrate with the mountain crew. After lunch, transfer back to Moshi where a comfortable hotel, hot shower, and well earned rest await. Spend the evening relaxing and sharing stories from your unforgettable Kilimanjaro experience.
